Cascara Bark Extract capsules contain 560 mg of pure cascara bark extract, known for its natural laxative properties.

The bark of the Rhamnus purshiana tree, a North American buckthorn tree, is used for Cascara extract. Known as ‘sacred bark,’ cascara sagrada has been used as a laxative by Native Americans for centuries.

Cascara Sagrada acts as a laxative. If taken in excess, it can cause diarrhoea. As well as increasing the effects of warfarin, it can increase the risk of bleeding. Warfarin users should avoid taking cascara extract.

The absorption of cascara is minimal. The typical daily dose is 300 mg, but should only be taken for a short period. Side effects may include abdominal cramps and electrolyte imbalance.

Usually, it takes six to twelve hours to work. A laxative dosage of cascara extract is generally considered the smallest amount necessary to maintain soft stools.

Start with one capsule at night and increase if needed.
