Mainstream Treatment For H.Pylori Antibiotics Triple Therapy
Your doctor will offer you a combination of two antibiotics, together with medication to reduce the stomach acid. Reducing stomach acid assists the two antibiotics to work efficiently. Triple therapy can be made up of the following medications:
Two antibiotics together with proton-pump inhibitors (PPI stomach acid reducer) such as lansoprazole (Prevacid), esomeprazole (Nexium), pantoprazole (Protonix), or rabeprazole (AcipHex) for 7 to 14 days
- Antibiotic Clarithromycin.
- Antibiotic Metronidazole
- Antibiotic Amoxicillin
Treatment on these medication needs to be at least 14 days for people with severe symptoms lasting longer than a few weeks. Your doctor will discuss this with you, together with your past history of symptoms. A follow-up test for h. pylori is recommended 6-8 weeks after Triple Therapy Treatment has finished. The T.T. treatments are not always successful and can result in people feeling worse. There is extensive research being carried out that could help doctors have a better understanding of not only h.pylori but many other bacteria that cause gut problems, but the information is not getting to our G.P.
